About the project
Building the skills a circular economy needs.
A research training program in artificial intelligence and the smart circular economy, delivered jointly by Southern Cross University and the University of Technology Sydney.
The problem
The shift to a more circular economy is urgently needed. It enables more efficient and effective use of resources, minimises waste, and helps ensure resource security. But making circularity work at a regional scale requires enabling tools that do not yet exist.
Our approach
We train a cohort of research students to work directly with industry partners, applying AI and other next-generation digital technologies to build that capability and embed circular economy practices within regional economies. The program targets two areas: AI-powered solutions that enable the development and uptake of circular business models, and the optimisation of circular infrastructure.
The NSW Northern Rivers serves as our model region.
The cohort
Three Honours and six Master of Philosophy students from diverse backgrounds work collaboratively with industry, under supervision from researchers across both universities who together bring the multidisciplinary expertise in AI, business and engineering needed to address this problem.
Honours
Three places
Scholarships valued at $10,000, for students enrolled in or commencing a Bachelor of Innovation with Honours.
MPhil
Six places
Master of Philosophy positions working on industry-identified problems across both research themes.
Delivered with
Southern Cross University and the University of Technology Sydney, with four industry partners contributing research problems, data, site access and co-supervision: Revolve Your World, CSENS, Business NSW and 3D Technology Co. Pty Ltd.
